vidfinders is a new community for finding fan-made vids.

Got a vid you downloaded, but you don't know who made it? Ask here!
Remember a vid you once saw, but you can't remember the vidder/song, just some details? Ask here!
Had a link to a vid or vidder's page that seems to have disappeared since you last checked it, and you want to know what happened and/or get a working link? Ask here!

The theory is that as membership grows, other members will be able to help you out if they know the answers to your questions.

This is not a place to post challenges, request vids, or announce vids.

Please keep all discussion related to finding vids (no introductory posts, etc.) Off-topic posts will be deleted.

If anyone has suggestions for other rules, etc. they would be welcome. Is the annoying nav strip showing for all of you? Or just for me because I'm a maintainer? Anyone want to create a community icon that says "vidfinders" on it? How can I allow people to tag entries? Do I have to set up the tags, or will one of you volunteer to do it instead? *bats lashes* Does anyone want to co-mod with me (I like a panel of three to five people to discuss deletions and other issues with)?

Something non-fandom-specific that says "vidfinders" on it would be awesome. Comm icons don't get used *that* much, but it's nice to have one, I think! thank you for volunteering!

I'll co-mod with you, if you like. Downsides: I've never modded before, and we're OTPs, so it's less like having a team of two than you'd hope. Also, possibly you should recruit an Actual Vidder as co-mod. Also, I am not good at, you know, projects. I'm willing to serve as Interim Co-Mod Until Someone Better Comes Along, though.

One thing I think you (if you are Sole Mod) or the Modding Team (if you + more) should make a call on: is it permissible to upload a vid to YSI or similar solely for the purpose of getting it identified? People are a thousand times more likely to figure out what the vid is if they can see it, rather than just read a description of, "Well, okay. It's SGA. And it's Sheppard/McKay. And, uh, I don't know the song, but the chorus kind of goes spang-spang-boink." But on the other hand, it breaks one of the rules of vid linking, which is: thou shalt not upload.

My own feeling, by the way, is that it should be allowed, with the understanding that the upload link will be removed (and, ideally, replaced by a link to the actual vid announcement, or at least to the vidder's LJ/website/email) when the vid is identified.

wistfuljane (and yes, have added you as maintainer, no vidders have offered, so the comm is ruled, as all things, by those who show up, eh?) about the uploading - am also in favor of one-time uploads, but we should be clear too that this is Not A Place To Swap Vids.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw my name into the hat.

Great! I'll cap it at 5 - so one more - because I like to have odd numbers in case there's a close decision on something and we need a tie-breaking vote. But you are added as a mod! This will involve some early meta as we figure out what this comm is and more about the rules and then later just occasional post deletion and tag cleanup, that sort of thing. Thank you!
